0500 Day Silicone

Flint Group's chemical manufacturing site goes from strength to strength.

Flint Group’s pressroom consumables division, Day International is certainly living up to its mission statement of delivering exceptional value, consistent quality, and continuous innovation. Day’s manufacturing site in Irlam, Manchester, home of the Varn and HDP brands, has invested in a state of the art, purpose built, silicone processing plant.

The new equipment offers the opportunity to manufacture silicone oils of varying viscosities, one of very few plants in Europe with this capabilty, and is unique in the printing industry. This opens up many benefits to the end user, rather than buying in oils produced for the mass market silicone industry, Day will begin to engineer oil and emulsion products specifically formulated for the print industry, using expertise built up as a major player over the last 30 years.

Nick Brannan, International Sales and Chemical Business Director illustrates “Prior to the installation of the plant, we at Day have been researching the interaction between paper and silicone, the addition of the new facility will enable us to carry these ideas forward. These developments will compliment the new advances in press technology such as ever faster speeds and the new Contiweb Ecocool system, providing less marking, less build up and more lubrication at lower doses.”

This highly specialised facility coupled with day’s impressive R&D, analytical, and QC laboratory facilities, cements Day International’s position at the forefront of consumable technology for the forseeable future.
