Flint Group confirms German Ink Ordinance Compliance for Sheetfed Packaging Inks and Sheetfed Water-based Coatings

Flint Group confirms that its Novasens® PRIME series of vegetable oil-based Sheetfed Packaging process inks, bases and speciality inks, as well as Novaset® water-based coatings, manufactured in Europe, are compliant with the composition requirements of the 21st Regulation amending the German Consumer Goods Regulation, known as the German Printing Ink Regulation (GIO).

Flint Group advises converters striving for compliance that this bulletin covers its Novasens® PRIME range of inks and Novaset® water-based coatings that are designed for printing on the non-food contact side of food contact materials.

The Novasens® PRIME and Novaset® product ranges were developed using carefully selected raw materials therefore the majority of products in this range were already compliant with the compositional requirements. However, relevant product formulations have been verified and, where necessary, updated to ensure compliance with provisions introduced under the GIO. Since October 2025, Flint Group’s European production of all its Novasens® PRIME process inks, bases and speciality inks, and Novaset® water-based coatings is in compliance with GIO.

In accordance with EU regulations, the organisation placing the food contact material on the market should assess its suitability for the intended purpose, since they are ultimately responsible for ensuring compliance.
